When you first start your driving lessons it can be fun but also very scary at the same time. All new drivers will be excited for their first experience behind the wheel; however there are a number of precautions that you will need to take.

  1. When you begin driving your instructor will give you the opportunity to take safety courses there are a number of them available and you should aim to take as many as possible. The benefits associated with taking such tests are that once you have your license insurance companies will give you a discount because you are seen as less of a risk.
  2. Before you move the car the very first thing that you should do is to adjust the mirrors so that you can easily see what is to the left, right and the back of you. Your next step will be to adjust the seats so that you can reach the pedals comfortably without stretching or so that your knees are not cramped upwards. Also be sure to adjust the head rest so that it is resting on your head and not on your neck. Finally adjust the steering wheel so that it is at a comfortable level.
  3. Pay close attention to traffic laws that you have learned in the classroom and studied from the theory test book. Anytime you arrive at a stop sign you must come to a complete stop; when you are approaching a yellow light you should slow down and not speed up in attempt to jump the red light. Obey any signs and pay attention to all speed limits. By following these basic traffic laws you are avoiding receiving tickets, having your insurance raised and most importantly getting into an accident.
  4. You should get as much practice as you possibly can outside of lesson times. Make sure that whoever you choose to practice with is a qualified driver with a full license.
  5. Take on board any criticism that you are given as it will only aid in enhancing your skills on the road if you make the necessary changes. You should also practice in all weather situations so that you are not taken by surprise when you are on your own and there is a sudden change in the weather.
